Yamaha has once again taken marine technology to the next level with the release of the game changing Helm Master® EX boat control system.

In a marine-industry first, Yamaha has developed a joystick and integrated control system that can now be paired with a single outboard engine - in addition to twin, triple and quad set-ups - giving New Zealand boat owners unprecedented control over their craft and access to the most advanced boating and fishing technologies on the market. It’s changing the way people use their boats.

  • Helm Master® EX is a complete integrated boat control system that makes getting to your fishing spot easier and allows the skipper to hold to a chosen fishing location at the touch of a button.

The EX stands for expandable, meaning customers can choose to install the complete Helm Master® EX system from the outset or begin with a base level set up and expand their boat’s capabilities over time. Upgrades are simple with no complex hydraulics, additional batteries or complex third party integration components needed.

  • FishPoint® is the feature fisherman are going to love. The system uses minimal engine RPM and the all-new electric steering to hold the boat in position, allowing you quickly set the boat and get lines in the water when the sounder is showing action on the bottom.

DriftPoint® is another great feature for the fisherman. The system will keep the bow pointed in a set direction while allowing the boat to naturally drift with the wind or current. DriftPoint® Track performs the same function while also using some additional engine thrust and steering to drift along a set track of waypoints that have been plotted on a compatible Multifunction Display.

Multi engine set-ups can also access StayPoint®, which works to maintain the boat’s heading and position.

  • This technology is available on all Digital Electronic Control (DEC) outboards within the Yamaha lineup. That’s from an F150 to XTO425. If you have an older DEC outboard, our team can help with compatibility.

  • The Helm Master system uses your outboard to hold the boat’s position, rather than an bow mounted trolling motor. This takes away the need for deployment, so you’re ready to use it as soon as the fish hit the sounder. And there’s no need for a second battery system to power it, saving you maintenance, charging and weight.

  • Stern/transom mounted systems can be used to assist with tight docking situations and precise point holding.

They don’t add clutter to your deck, don’t require moving or removing your bow rail, or call for the addition of a plate for it to sit on.

The Helm Master System uses your existing outboard, rather than introducing a secondary system.

  • Be sure to consider your boat size, intended use, and budget when making your decision, but if you have a larger boat and prioritize comprehensive control and modular, advanced features that speak the same language as your outboard, then the Yamaha Helm Master Ex system and its expandable range is unbeatable. Helm Master® EX is available across all of Yamaha’s digital electronic control (DEC) outboards from Yamaha’s F150 to XTO425 and systems.
